ImageKit offers a native app that allows users to quickly access its Digital Asset Management (DAM) platform on Windows and MacOS. With this app, you can browse and search your assets, create new folders, upload files and folders, and perform operations such as copying file URLs and downloading files.
Additionally, you can click to open assets directly on the web platform to utilize all available features. The app also supports drag-and-drop functionality, making it easy to move files between it and other applications.
Installation
To start using the ImageKit DAM App, download it from the ImageKit website. After installation, open the app and log in with your ImageKit account credentials.
Platform availability
The ImageKit DAM App is available for Windows and macOS. Download the appropriate version for your operating system from the ImageKit website.
How to update the app?
The app ensures you always have the latest features and improvements with automatic updates. When a new version is available, it is downloaded in the background, and the update is applied automatically the next time you open the app.
If you prefer to apply the latest update immediately, you can select the "Relaunch to update app" option in the profile dropdown menu whenever an update is available.
Browse assets
The app offers an intuitive interface similar to the web platform, allowing you to navigate your assets easily. You can view your files, folders, and media collections with sorting options. Additionally, you can switch between grid and list views for convenient browsing.
Search assets
The search bar at the top of the app allows you to search for files, folders, tags, and media collections. The autocomplete search feature suggests possible matches as you type, helping you quickly locate the assets you need.
This feature is the same as the search functionality available on the ImageKit web platform. Read more about it here.
Create folder
To create a new folder at the current path, click the "New" button in the app and select "Create folder" from the menu.
Upload files and folders
Click on the "New" button in the app and select "Upload files" or "Upload folder" to upload files or folders to your ImageKit account at the correct path.
You can also drag and drop files directly into the app to initiate upload.
Open assets in the browser
The app allows you to open files, folders, and media collections in your browser. Hover over an asset and click the "Open in browser" icon to access it on the ImageKit web platform. This feature is useful when you need to perform advanced operations on assets that are not available in the app.
Copy file URLs
To copy a file's URL, hover over it and click on the "Copy URL" icon. This feature is helpful for quickly sharing links to specific files.
Download files
To download a file, hover over it and click on the "Download" icon. The file will be downloaded to your system.
Drag and drop functionality
One useful feature of the ImageKit DAM App is its drag-and-drop functionality. You can click and hold on a file within the app and drag it to your desired location in your operating system or into another running application, such as Photoshop. This seamless operation allows you to work efficiently without switching between applications.
Permissions
The DAM app natively supports capturing images or videos from your system's camera and microphone and uploading them to your ImageKit media library. To enable this feature, you need to grant necessary permissions to the app.
Permissions in MacOS
The app requests for camera and microphone permissions to capture images or videos from your system's camera and microphone. When you open the app for the first time and click on the "New" button > "File Upload" section, you will see a notification asking for camera permission like the one shown below.
On clicking the "Grant" button, the app will request for camera and microphone permissions. They should look like the ones shown below.
Once you grant the permissions, you should be able to see the camera and microphone options in the "New" button > "File Upload" section like shown below.
Note: In certain cases, you might not see the "Grant" button. This is because the app has been denied these permissions by the system. You can grant these permissions manually by going to the "System Preferences" > "Security & Privacy" > "Camera" and "Microphone" and grant the permissions from there.
Once you grant the permissions, do not forget to quit and reopen the app to apply the changes. Unless you do this, the app will not recognize the new permissions.
Permissions in Windows
For Windows, the app should automatically have permissions to access the camera and microphone and you should be able to see the options in the "New" button > "File Upload" section like shown below.
Note: If you don't see the camera and microphone options, it is probably because you have overridden the default camera and microphone permission settings in Windows. You can grant these permissions manually by going to the "Camera" and "Microphone" options in Windows Settings. The below image shows how you can grant permissions for microphone.
Similarly, to grant permissions for camera, select the "Camera" option from the sidebar.
Once you grant the permissions, do not forget to quit and reopen the app to apply the changes. Unless you do this, the app will not recognize the new permissions.
